THE Parent's Choice!
Pomona schools need new leadership with vision, integrity, passion, and most importantly, with openness and accountability.
Go ahead, review my site and my views, and see that I fit that description, then support me with YOUR VOTE, and together, we will show what it means to be...
4 Pomona!
what am I running for?
Our children, who are our future
Every child is filled with such great potential and with a unique purpose and personality. As parents, teachers, and school board members, it is our responsibility to nurture and shape each child in a safe, encouraging and positive way and place.
how can we do this?
By working together in open dialogue, with our combined resources, with commitment to goals and vision, and with a lot of hard work on all our parts!
by fighting against all this...
The long time incumbents have built up a mess of law-suits, excess and money draining facilities, millions of dollars in government fines, tarnished the district's reputation because of the e-rate scandal, and nepotistic favoritism by granting family and friend's huge contracts for questionable projects and salaries.
Their rubber-stamping and non-independent thinking has resulted in unequitable school facilities, overcrowding, alienated parents, disillusioned teachers, and "low performing" students who feel they have no future.
It is time to elect a parent, who was able to pull her own children through "low performing" schools to go on to college!
Who is working on the front lines to curb youth violence and to positively impact Pomona students.
formula for success
let's get started!
First, let's take a good look at what we have:
- Nearly 31,000 bundles of pure potential (students)
- Almost 2000 talented Teachers
- 28 Elementary schools, 6 Middle schools, 6 High schools
- Budget of $260,000,000
- Spending per pupil $8,300
Wow! We are so blessed!
So, what are some of my ideas for ways to use these great resources to their best advantage?
1. Expand our use of multipurpose rooms on all campuses. Why? Because we work better together! When we can get more parents to come to programs at school, and get students excited about sharing and performing and showing off their good work, then student positive self-image grows. Utilize our mulitipropose rooms for after-school activities to keep kids off the streets and to include parents in shaping their child's education.
2. Build on the strengths of each high school by building the kinds of facilities found at better performing schools and offer life expanding classes to put the academics into real life perspective. Each high school and middle school should have several magnets built into them.
3. Open dialogue with the district's plans on utilizing excess land.
4. Build-in accountability for the School Board. Use outside auditors to review contracts and financials.
5. Encourage open enrollment throughout the district - this fosters friendly competition within the district and it enables parents to find the right fit of schooling for their children.
6. Create magnet schools at all levels, especially truly bilingual schools where everyone learns in two languages despite their mother tongue. Graduating sixth graders should leave being able to read and write in both languages. We live in a multicultural society in a globalized economy, let's prepare our young people for the future!
7. In addition to Spanish/English, other schools could have multiple language tracks for French, Russian, Chinese, Portuguese or others. Other magnet schools could include computer-based, performing arts, creative arts, environmentally friendly, engineering and inventing, creative writing, hands-on discovery school, media based focussed on the entertainment industry, fundamental school. Every child is unique and gifted differently, with different strengths, we should build on those strengths, not demand conformity.
8. Encourage parent participation with planned service days, with useful activities for the parents to do. Ask parents to turn in a parent survey of resources and strengths and time availability along with the emergency cards at the beginning of the year.
9. Bring renewed attention to Middle schools when it is time to improve our district, by giving them some magnetism, too, through better facilities and attractive focuses. This is a good age to load up on after-school programming in clubs, sports, music, service, tutoring, socializing. The students don't drive and are rarely employed, so let's give them something to do after school and get the parents involved.
